What is Foster Care?

Foster care is about stepping in when a child or youth needs a safe place to land.

When a child can’t be at home for a period of time, foster parents provide a temporary, supportive and loving home where they can feel safe, cared for and connected. Foster parents offer steadiness during moments of change while children stay connected to school, family and the routines that matter most.

Every foster care journey looks different. Some placements are short, others last longer. What makes the difference is having a caring adult willing to show up and provide stability when it’s needed.

At Trellis Society, foster parents are never alone. You are supported with training, guidance and a team available 24/7.

If you have space in your home and heart to support a child during a critical moment, this could be you.

Trellis will sit down and look if each kid will work well with your family, you’re not just a bed to take care of a child. Trellis has lots of other programs to access too if you need.

About Fostering with Trellis Society

Foster families provide healthy, trauma-informed home environments that support infants, children and youth to meet their developmental milestones and ultimately transition back to their family home, independence or other permanent home environments.

We know the children and youth in our care often have traumatic histories that impact each one differently. Our foster homes are trained in responsive parenting and individualized, strength-based supports to meet their unique needs.

Trellis Society serves the City of Calgary and the surrounding area. Foster parents must currently live in Calgary or area.

We’re here to support foster families along every step of their journey.
