BURNOUT! We completely understand the financial restraints that come with being a student. However, between working, self-care, school demands, learning how to become a counsellor, and supporting your clients as a counsellor it’s a lot to take. We’ve seen how this impacts our students as well as our clients and this is our way of mitigating that risk.
Biweekly group supervision with various therapists on the team (psychologists, counsellors, social workers). This is a time to consult and learn from everyone!
1:1 supervision with your approved supervisor. This is a time to consult, do case reviews, reflect, brainstorm, get and give feedback.
When you are ready your case load will be populated from our waitlist. We try our best to accommodate with fit and availability.
We do our best to meet people where they are at. We can see clients virtually, a phone call, in the community (ie. their school, the library, etc.), or at one of our Trellis offices across the city.
Yes, we require our students to be able to drive to different locations and unfortunately do not pay mileage. We expect our students to balance having boundaries around the amount they are driving with client need.
The majority of your hours will be during the typical work week, Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm, we do allow students to see SOME clients in the evenings and weekends. We limit these hours as our paid staff do not work weekends and fewer evenings.
We require our students to complete 400 hours over approximately 8 months
Creating Safe Spaces for Connection, Healing and Dialogue
Our Circle Keepers work across Trellis programs to support Indigenous youth, individuals and families through culturally grounded care. They create safe spaces for connection, healing and dialogue while centering Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing.
Guided by Elders and Knowledge Keepers, Circle Keepers support people through all stages of their journey with Trellis. Their work moves beyond western approaches to case management and instead honours holistic relational and traditional models of care. This includes helping people navigate systems connecting them to Indigenous resources ceremony and medicines and walking alongside youth and families through times of transition or crisis.
Circle Keepers also play an important role in strengthening cultural safety across Trellis. They share teachings, provide guidance and help ensure Indigenous knowledge is woven into everyday practice so both people served and staff feel supported, respected and seen.
Mental Health and Substance Abuse Support for Youths
Offered in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), Enhanced Youth Wellness supports youth ages 13 to 18 who are accessing treatment for mental health and/or substance use through AHS’s Adolescent Day Treatment Program (ADTP).
Our trained support staff co-facilitate ADTP group therapy sessions and provide one-on-one support for a period of three to six weeks as youth leave treatment and return to their community schools, jobs and regular daily routines.
While we primarily offer support to youth transitioning out of treatment, programming can be available to youth before and during treatment if requested.
